"The Grassy Street" chronicles ordinary life in a typical Soviet suburb in the 1940s. Unsavory staff by any standard, but fascinating for the picture Eppel paints — with his remarkable tenderness, humor and even ebullience. Издание на английском языке.
The Solomon Narratives in the Context of the Hebrew Bible: Told and Retold
This book is concerned with ascertaining the value of having two versions of the same monarchic history of Israel within the Hebrew Bible (focusing on the books of Kings and Chronicles). It is furthermore concerned with how the book of Chronicles is read in relation to the book of Kings as Chronicles is so often considered to be a later rewritten text drawing upon an earlier version of the Masoretic Text of Samuel and Kings. The predominant scholarly approach to reading the book of Chronicles is to read it in light of how the Chronicler emended his source texts (additions, omissions, harmonizations). This approach has yielded great success in our understanding of the Chronicler’s theology and rhetoric. However, Cook asserts, it has also failed to consider how the book of Chronicles can be read as an autonomous and coherent document. That is, a diachronic approach to reading Chronicles sometimes misses the theological and rhetorical features of the text in its final form. This book shows the great benefit of reading these narratives as autonomous and coherent by using the Solomon narratives as a case study. These narratives are first read individually, and then together, so as to ascertain their uniqueness vis-a-vis one another. Finally, Cook addresses questions related to the concordance of these narratives as well as their purposes within their respective larger literary contexts.
‘Street trading is an activity which involves the selling of goods or the supply of services for a reward in a public road’ (City of Johannesburg, 2009b: 5-7). This minor dissertation is an examination of the conditions and aspirations of street traders in Johannesburg’s Central Business District (CBD), specifically Kerk Street. The underlying rationale is the fact that, while there is a small, but growing body of literature on street traders in South Africa, there is little on street trading in the Johannesburg CBD. Moreover, to the best of the researcher’s knowledge, virtually none of this deals with the views and aspirations of the street traders themselves. This dissertation is based on the following research question: How did the conditions and aspirations of street traders in Kerk Street change between 2005 and 2009?

The Chronicles are an emergent temporal logic approach to model a form of reasoning based on events. In the literature there are different studies regarding the reasoning and learning mechanisms proposed for such an approach, and applications in the distributed systems. This book reports these works. At the beginning, the book presents the different formalisms that different authors have developed around the concept of chronicles, with an introduction to what is understood as temporal logic. The next section presents the reasoning mechanisms for each chronicle formalism. The next section is dedicated to the presentation of the different chronicle learning mechanisms proposed in the literature. Finally, the last section is dedicated to present the utilization of the chronicles in various problems in distributed environments: management of telecommunications systems, in the context of web services, and in the design of autonomous systems of communication. This book should be especially useful to researches and professionals in the areas of the Artificial Intelligence, Distributed Systems; and PhD and Master Students in the domain of the Computational Sciences.
The mid to late 1990s were a crucial moment in the history of video games as they relate to girls/women. Up until then, it was assumed that video games were designed for and played by adolescent males almost exclusively. This was illustrated by violent game narratives and a preponderance of female characters cast as damsels in distress and sexy bad girls, when there were any female characters at all. In reaction to these assumptions and the decidedly sexist characterization of women in games, or their non-existence, more and more people criticized the gaming industry. The present study takes a snapshot of the gaming world just before the 21st century and aims to analyze two diverging views emanating from that moment in time that are still very much relevant ten years later. On the one hand, female-run game development companies aimed to offer girls/women games they wanted, based mostly on surveys asking them what they wanted to see in a game. On the other hand, female gamer clans such as the “Quake Girls” were demonstrating that it was possible not only to perform within the white heteronormative masculine environment of hardcore online gaming, but also enjoy it.
